Today, we're spotlighting: Canadian Tire Midland

Canadian Tire Midland’s story began in 1949, and more than 75 years later, it continues to thrive as an important part of the North Simcoe community.

The store first opened under owner-manager Dave Finch, alongside his wife and business partner, Murray McComb, in a modest building measuring just 53 by 40 feet. As the community grew, so did the business, with expansions in 1952 and 1962. The 1962 expansion, which nearly doubled the store’s space, marked an exciting milestone as Canadian Tire Midland celebrated its 13th anniversary.

Over the decades, Canadian Tire Midland continued to evolve, with another major expansion in 2022 bringing the store to its current size and helping it serve the community for years to come.

Today, under the ownership of Michael and Marie Ferris, Canadian Tire Midland’s impact extends well beyond its retail space. The Ferris family has made community giving an important part of the business, supporting local organizations, charities and initiatives, including Hospice Huronia, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe, We Are The Villagers, Rotary Club of Midland, Huronia Community Foundation and the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce.

In 2025, the Ferris family also pledged $100,000 to Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation’s We See You campaign, demonstrating their continued commitment to local healthcare.

From a small storefront in 1949 to a thriving local business today, Canadian Tire Midland’s history is a testament not only to its growth, but also to the lasting impact a community-minded business can have on the people and organizations around it.
