Sainte Marie among the Hurons

Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is a historic site and open-air museum located near Midland, Ontario. It was originally established in 1639 as the first European settlement in what is now Ontario and served as a mission base for French Jesuit missionaries and the Huron-Wendat Nation.

Today, the site operates as a reconstructed heritage village that offers visitors a look into 17th-century life through exhibits, demonstrations, and guided tours. It is one of the region’s most significant cultural and historical attractions, preserving and interpreting early contact between Indigenous peoples and European settlers in Southern Georgian Bay.
