The Steve Miller Band headlines Radio for Radiation
Benefit Concert VIBarrie, Ontario. July 25, 2014: 104.1 The DOCK is proud to present Radio for Radiation Benefit
Concert VI, featuring legendary classic rock icon The Steve Miller Band, on November 19, 2014 at the
Casino Rama Entertainment Centre.

“We’re very excited to bring to Simcoe County our sixth and largest Radio for Radiation Benefit Concert,”
says Paul Larche, President of Larche Communications Inc. (LCI) and owner of 104.1 The DOCK and
KICX 106. “Again, here’s an opportunity to enjoy legendary rock performers and help raise money for the
new Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at the same time. It’s a true win-win”.
104.1 The DOCK and KICX 106 have pledged half a million dollars to support the new Simcoe Muskoka
Regional Cancer Centre. The “Radio for Radiation Campaign” assists in the purchase of a new CT
Simulator suite. This suite provides residents of Simcoe and Muskoka treatment closer to home, rather
than going to Toronto.

“We could not do this without the generosity of Casino Rama” says Larche. “They are donating their
entire facility and Entertainment Centre amenities at no charge.”

an instant anthem, a breakthrough smash that shot all the way to No. 1. His 1978 album, “Greatest Hits
1974-78,” became one of the best-selling releases of all-time, selling millions every year through the end
of the century. At the height of the classic rock movement, the Steve Miller Band was one of the defining
figures.

Hit songs, from 17 studio albums and three live albums, include “Rock ‘n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet
Airliner,” “Jungle Love,” “Swingtown,” “The Joker” and “Abracadabra.”
The benefit show will open with special guests “Sonic Coalition”, a local band made up of business
professionals who have helped raise over $500,000 for local charities. Sonic Coalition are Gerry Pilon,

The Steve Miller Band has sold more than 30 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. In
its early years, the Steve Miller Band was a cornerstone of the burgeoning underground FM rock radio
stations that were springing up across the country. The Steve Miller Band’s 1973 single “The Joker” was

of the century. At the height of the classic rock movement, the Steve Miller Band was one of the defining
figures.

Some people call him the Space Cowboy. Some call him the Gangster of Love. Whatever you call him,
Steve Miller is making the best music of his life. In 2010, 17 years after the release of Wide River, the
Steve Miller Band released Bingo!. The energetically rendered album was nominated as “Blues
Rock Album” of the year by the Blues Foundation. Let Your Hair Down was released in 2011. The album
shines with some of the finest guitar playing ever recorded by the Steve Miller Band.
Today, the Steve Miller Band and classic rock go hand in hand. The Steve Miller Band is brand name
rock that millions have come to trust.
Hit songs, from 17 studio albums and three live albums, include “Rock ‘n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet
Airliner,” “Jungle Love,” “Swingtown,” “The Joker” and “Abracadabra.”
ABOUT SONIC COALITION
Sonic Coalition brings their unique blend of turbo-charged country punk to festivals, clubs, and charity
gigs across the heartland of Ontario. Ranging from the Stones to Johnny Cash to Social Distortion, their
sets reinvent the classics and put a 21st century spin on the 1980s. Melting hearts and amplifiers for ten
years, this rock and roll combo have help raise over $500,000 for charities in Barrie and area.
Sonic Coalition are Gerry Pilon, Jim Fairhead, Chris Adams and Jeff Lehman.

Gerry Pilon plays bass, loves music and spends brief moments reliving the eighties. He happened to be
able to sing a few of the songs so he became the singer too. He also runs an architectural practice that
designs a lot of stuff all over the province and beyond.
Jim lives music – when he’s not rocking out with the band his company makes the best luxury high end
musical amplifiers which are exported everywhere on the planet.
Chris Adams likes to find out what happens when you turn all knobs and settings to maximum. In
addition to guitars he is founder and Chief Technology Officer for tech superstar g-Shift Labs.

Drums and questionable backing vocals are provided by Jeff Lehman, when he’s not busy being Mayor
of Barrie.

ABOUT RADIO FOR RADIATION

In mid-2011, KICX 106 and 104.1 The Dock reach their goal of raising over $500,000 for their Radio for
Radiology campaign, and the purchase of a new interventional radiology machine.
In November 2011, the stations pledged an additional $500,000, raising funds towards the purchase of a
CT simulator suite in the new Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre (SMRCC). The campaign is now
called “Radio for Radiation Campaign”
The addition of a new CT Simulator suite in the new SMRCC allows people in Orillia, Midland, Barrie and
all of Simcoe County to get treatment close to home, instead of the recent situation, which saw many
patients experiencing the additional cost, wait and disruption of going to Toronto for treatment. The reality
is that most of us, or a loved one, will have to deal with cancer in our lives. It’s a very stressful time. It’s
critical that residents in our region have the best, most convenient and timely care available. With help
from our many listeners and clients, the funding of a new CT Simulator suite for the new SMRCC will do
precisely that.
The CT simulator suite is the first step in the radiation therapy planning process and allows the cancer
team to “see” a patient’s internal structures like tissue, organs and bones. This visualization helps determine the specific positioning of patients during radiation.
