Ministry of Labour Falls blitz

Ministry of Labour Falls blitz

Falls are hurting Ontario workers. In 2013, a staggering 11,814 lost time injury (LTI) claims resulted from falls – that’s 32 LTI claims per day. Falls on the same level occur most frequently, accounting for 70% of the claims.1 According to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, falls in Ontario cost more than $73.2 million in 2012 in direct benefit claims costs.2

That is why Ontario’s Ministry of Labour will conduct an inspection blitz around falls from May 16 to July 15, 2016.

Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) has collaborated with the Ministry of Labour to host a live, no-cost webinar on May 12, 2016 to help employers prepare for the blitz. The webinar will provide information on what inspectors will be looking for during the blitz, the industry sectors that will be targeted, and what firms could do to prepare. WSPS member firms could participate in the webinar by registering for the event.
