Yoga at Wye Marsh: Relax and Unwind @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Get in tune with nature as you relax with gentle stretches and zen poses on the boardwalk at Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre with Terri Brophy.
Please bring your own yoga mats and props (a blanket, blocks, bolster, etc.) Please also consider bringing a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen.

~ Who: Participants with any yoga ability are welcome. No age restriction but young children should not attend as silence would be honoured during the practice.

Throw on a cozy sweater and visit the historic mission October 8 or 9 to explore an indoor/outdoor craft show with more than 40 local vendors, including Rooted Cafe. Take part in fun activities for fall lovers of all ages, from making bird feeders and corn husk dolls, to tasting tea and bannock. $8 per person, children 5 and under are free. Last admission is 4 p.m.

Virtual Simcoe Author Talk Series: Bernie Saunders (NHL Hockey Player) @ Midland Public Library

Bernie Saunders always had a passion for hockey. His prodigious talent was on display at all levels for everyone to see. But because he was Black, he was stymied at every turn and experienced nothing but taunting from opponents, spectators, coaches and even his own teammates.

Shut Out is a memoir about professional hockey by a player who had the potential to become a star but was blocked at almost every opportunity because of his race. In spite of this, Shut Out is a hopeful and uplifting book about facing adversity, overcoming it and moving ahead.

Owl Prowl Hike at Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Join us for an evening hike as we learn about, and try to spot, some of the animals who call Wye Marsh home!

Join your host Mak Soden, Wye Marsh’s Lead Interpreter, on a nocturnal hike of our trails to explore great year round habitat in hopes of catching a glimpse or more likely a call or two of one of our local nocturnal raptors.

~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
~ When: Saturday, November 5 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm
~ How much: $20.00 per person
~ Who: All ages are welcome to attend. Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
~ What to bring: Flashlight, sturdy footwear (with ice treads if possible), walking stick, layered clothing, camera (for photos with a special invited mystery guest). This experience will be entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather!

Maple Syrup Workshop @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

From sap to sweetwater to syrup, learn the process of making maple syrup with the Wye Marsh Sap Suckers!

Plan to attend this introductory workshop on making Maple Syrup. Learn the history and how to tap a sugar maple tree and general science of producing syrup from tree sap. The in-house presentation will provide you with techniques, tips and best practices and will finish off with a tour of the Wye Marsh Sugar Shack and maple trees. And perhaps you will get to enjoy a taste of the sweet nectar itself!

~ Whether you desire to tap a few trees in your yard or have a small sugar bush, you will know what is necessary to make quality maple syrup safely.
~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
~ When: Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 1:30pm – 4:00pm
~ How much: $12.00.

First Light @ Sainte-Marie among the Hurons

Now in its 22nd year, Sainte-Marie’s First Light is a must-see event. Candlelit pathways guide visitors through the historic site and inside historic buildings, all dressed up for the holiday season. Enjoy a great lineup of family-friendly activities, hands-on children’s crafts, historic demonstrations, and performers – all amidst the spectacular glow of thousands of candles. An abundance of music will also fill the air, including indigenous drumming and singing and seasonal music over the six evenings. For some early holiday shopping, over 40 exceptional crafters and artisans will be located inside the restaurant hall and the Brebeuf Event Centre. Sainte-Marie’s Flint and Timber Gift Shop will also be open each night. Fireworks are also happening on select evenings. Registration will be required. Keep checking the website for details. Event dates: November 24 to 26 and December 1 to 3. $10 per person. Last admission at 7:30 p.m.

Marsh by Moonlight: Snowshoe Series @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Experience the sights and sounds that snowshoeing along our moonlit trails provides!
After learning about the Marsh at night through hoots, chatter, coos, yips and howls relax by the fire and enjoy a roasted snack and a warm drink. Space is very limited as we like to keep group sizes small to ensure the best possibility for wildlife encounters!
~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
~ When: January 20, 21, 27, 28 + February 3, 4, 2023 5:30pm-7:30pm
~ How much: $75.00 per participant
~ Price includes snowshoe rental, and a small gift to hold as a memory of the night! Participants aged 12 +. Please leave your pets at home for this experience.
