Marsh by Moonlight Paddle Series @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Enjoy a unique guided canoe tour through the sparkling moonlit waters of the Wye Marsh.  

The Marsh by Moonlight Paddle Series features a guided voyageur style canoe tour through the sparkling moonlight waters of the Wye Marsh. Twinkling voyageur canoes and boardwalk, night noises, and Bannock roasted over the open fire accompanied with a hot drink will make for an unforgettable night!

Connect with nature and experience the Wye Marsh in a way that not many people have the opportunity to!

  • Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
  • When: 6:30 -8:30 pm on September 29 & 30 and October 6 & 7, 2023
  • How Much: $75.00 per participant. Includes all equipment and a gift to take home.
  • Who: Ages 13+. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • All paddling equipment is provided.
  • Flashlights kill nightvision! We encourage you to allow your night vision to lead the way!  
  • Layer, layer, layer.  We recommend dressing in lots of loose fitting layers to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the evening. 
  • Dress for the weather – this program will run rain or shine! In the case of thunderstorms, the program has a rain date.

Kids Crochet an Owl @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
Oct 15 @ 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Feed your child’s creative spirit and their love of nature. This afternoon workshop will introduce everyone to basic crochet stitches, and end with a cuddly owl – plus TWO FREE patterns for a cute frog and sweet bumble bee to take home and try!

Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

When: Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm

How much: $30.00 per person + HST. All needed yarn and crochet hooks will be provided for use during the workshop. 

Who: Ages 10 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult

About the Instructor:

Emmet Bridges graduated from McMaster University after 5 years studying Earth and Environmental Science and has volunteered at our Sweetwater Harvest Festival and worked over the summer of 2023 as part of our Conservation Stewardship Department.

Now working as a Water Technician, Emmett returns to Wye Marsh to show you how to create functional art inspired by nature.

Moose Hair Tufting Workshop @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

It is amazing what beautiful designs can be created using moose hair tufting. Join Noopimiing Creations at Wye Marsh and learn how to make a pom pom, by securing a bundle of hair with a loop stitch, and then sculpting it into a shape or pattern inspired by nature.

  • When: Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

About the Instructors:

In 2020 Hunter Corbiere and Jennifer Brunelle started Noopimiing Creations, and have been active members of the local artisan community for over 15 years at powwows and craft shows. Now they own and operate a storefront in the Midland Cultural Centre. The word Noopimiing means ‘in the bush’ where a lot of our materials, mediums and influences come from. The land has so much to offer, whether it’s the leather that comes from the moose, the colours of the waters or the sky, or the changing of the seasons. Hunter and Jen are both proud Anishinaabekwes’ and put love and creativity in everything they make, and have a passion in teaching others traditional crafting skills and leather work. Chi-Miigwetch!

Halloween at Wye Marsh

Calling all Ghosts, Goblins, Fairies, and creatures of the night! Put on your Halloween finery and explore the Wye Marsh trails!

Put on your Halloween finery, pick up a “passport” then explore our trails at Wye Marsh. Meet a variety of well-dressed woodland “spirits”. Collect five or more stamps, and how your passport for a sweet treat in the Visitors’ Centre.

Moccasin Making Workshop @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Moccasins are created all over North America by many different nations, in many different styles, and are called “Makizin” in Anishinaabemowin. Spend the day with our Instructors from Noopimiing Creations and they will teach you an Ojibwe “puckering” technique as you create your own “Makizin” to take home.
