Looking for a very British pleasure without leaving the area.
Well, Midland’s Royal Tea on King has you covered.
The downtown business offers a traditional afternoon English tea with options for both dining in at their King Street location or ordering takeaway.
“Our business offers a traditional English tea room where you can enjoy a full afternoon tea experience,” says Royal Tea co-owner Roberta Douglas.
The traditional afternoon tea consists of a seasonal selection of finger sandwiches and quiche. This is followed by freshly made scones with real clotted cream and luscious strawberry jam, and finally a selection of delicious cakes, tarts and sweets.
All are served on a three-tiered vintage china cake stand and accompanied by your choice of Pluck tea, served of course in a teapot, with all the pomp and circumstance you would expect from an afternoon tea experience.
Douglas and her business partner purchased the tea room at 256 King Street in September 2020 during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We saw the potential and recently expanded into 252 King Street with a full boutique of knits, jewelry, Belleek and more giftware,” Douglas says, noting their full gift shop also includes goodies from the United Kingdom and knits from Ireland.
Douglas says word is still getting out about everything Royal Tea on King has to offer.
“Many do not know by passing by that our tea room will make you feel like you have just walked into the UK,” she says, noting the shop carries the very best of
everything British, on the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay.
“They also love finding out our grocery items are all imported; real Cadbury chocolate and crips along with many other favourites.”
They also offer freshly baked scones, complete with homemade clotted cream and sumptuous jam for takeout as well as online shopping.
