A Penetanguishene-based business has been helping area residents with a wide range of home services for close to 150 years.
H.S. St. Amant & Sons was founded in 1875 and originally operated as a blacksmith shop. Founded by Etienne Steven André St.Amant, the company is now a fourth-generation, family owned and operated business.
Company president Kevin St. Amant says that kind of longevity along with continuously offering high-quality products and services has helped the business thrive over the years.
Kevin and fellow current owners Joseph, Marty, Susan, Keith And Marc St. Amant ( and the late Christopher St. Amant ) are all direct descendants of the founders and offer a versatile list of Red Seal journeyman services (plumbing, steamfitters, gas technicians, sheet metal and HVAC).
“Our company evolved to mechanical contracting offering complete services in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial contracting – we grew as our community grew,” Kevin St. Amant says, noting H.S. St. Amant and Sons Inc. offers customers a consistent team commitment to service.
“We’re just down the street if you need us. Because our customers are our neighbours, friends and family, our team takes extra care to make sure each one receives our best service. We also frequently say if you need it…. we can get it.”
St. Amant says the company’s mission is to provide its customers with professional, dependable service by supplying top-quality products at competitive prices.
“This statement is extremely important to our fourth-generation business as we look forward to making our operation sustainable and successful now and in the future,” he adds. “With a dedicated team of 22, we think we can offer a great experience.”
While the company no longer offers blacksmithing, it does provide a wide range of specialized services in mechanical contracting, including HVAC systems, furnaces, air conditioning, HRV, boiler installation and service.
They also offer plumbing and water processing – water softening, ultra violet purification, reverse osmosis systems, iron removal and general filtration.
They also have an associated company based in Elmvale called GVS Sheet Metal industrial fabrication and installation that’s been operating since 1973.
“We have been providing sales, service and installation in residential, commercial and industrial environments for over one hundred years,” St. Amant says.
“In recent years, our contract services have become highly specialized to meet the current needs of our schools in HVAC and all areas of mechanical contracting.”
But the company also strives to be a contributing member of the communities it serves.
“We are members of a variety of associations related to the trades,” St. Amant says.
“We also have various commitments to the community. Getting involved as a corporate citizen is important to us.”
