In 1990, when Kevin was hired as a technician, security systems required a massive amount of installation work.  “We had to drill holes everywhere in a house to run wires and then find a place to mount a big black security camera.  That often made houses look like Fort Knox.” Leonard said. “Today, security equipment fits almost anywhere, and it has more features and capabilities than even the Jetsons imagined.”

“I grew up working in our successful, family business so when I was appointed President of Huronia in 2005, my goal was to create the same kind of family run business culture.”

“It’s a simple thing that makes a small business successful – going the extra mile – so you become known for outstanding Customer Service, top of the line products and a really knowledgeable Team who care about our customers.”

“And we have done that over the last 25 years in a very competitive and very fast changing business – as we are now recognized as the leading security services company in Southern Georgian Bay,” Leonard said.

Part of that success factor is that Kevin works hard in the community as well.

“I was taught that it’s important to give back to the community.  Not just with dollars, but also by dedicating time to groups and causes that affect where and how we live,” he concluded.

Actively involved in the Midland Y’s Men’s Club, Midland music festival, Tiny Township Community Policing, Neighbourhood watch and a myriad of local events in and around Georgian Bay help keeps him personally in touch with the growing communities. He also actively involved in fundraising for the Georgian Bay General Hospital.

The next 25 years?  “More Snowmobiling and Snowshoeing!” Leonard replied.  “And looking for more Huronia opportunities because we have evolved into being much more than just an alarms company.  For instance, we provide our clients with life-safety products such as fire extinguishers or carbon monoxide alarms.”

Huronia has also added an Audio Video division that designs and builds award winning home entertainment centres.  And recently, Huronia purchased a lock, key & safe company that offers residential, commercial and automotive lock and key products and services.

“We are cutting and programming a huge number of chipped keys for automobiles each month,” Leonard said.  “Huronia is also focusing on new industry segments such as Smart Home and Wellness services.  Plus, our Commercial division is recognized as the go-to authority on most Government and Institutional requirements because of our local Monitoring and Installation expertise.”

“Personally, I’d really like to spend more time enjoying winter pursuits but my wife Tracy enjoys warmer climates,” Kevin said with a smile.  “So stay tuned to see if I have snowshoes on this winter or a bathing suit,” he said with a chuckle.

Huronia Alarm & Fire Security Inc. has been in business for over 40 years and is Central Ontario’s leading provider of home and business security and monitoring services, CCTV, fire and safety, lock, key and safe products and services, home theatre, audio and video consultation and entertainment room design, as well as cabling and smart home wiring for today’s home automation requirements.
